QuickTime edit lists can map movie time to media time. Decide whether the MOV reproduces the MPEG programme presentation, exposes full source media, or represents a documented trim. Record the decision and test it in the receiving editor/player.
MOV Sample Descriptions Must Match the Written Codec Data
A QuickTime video sample description tells a reader how to interpret media data, including the compression type. Audio has equivalent sample-description needs. Renaming MPEG data as MOV does not create valid track/sample entries. Choose codecs from the actual receiver. An editor can prefer intraframe or particular audio formats; a device/player may support a smaller set.
