JPEG Is a Pixel Snapshot of an ODP Slide, Not Another Presentation Format
An ODP file is an editable OpenDocument Presentation. It keeps slides, text objects, shapes, pictures, themes, notes, and presentation settings in an ODF package. JPEG is a raster image format made from a fixed grid of pixels. Converting an ODP slide to JPEG means rendering its current appearance into pixels at a chosen size and compression quality. The result is useful for an image upload, a web preview, a social post, or an attachment where a presentation editor is not expected.
That physical change is one way. A JPEG editor can retouch pixels, but it cannot recover an Impress text box, a chart's values, a master-page style, a speaker note, or a link target. LibreOffice Impress can export to graphics formats through File, Export; the Image Export dialog determines whether the complete page or only selected objects are written. Keep the ODP source as the master and create JPEG copies for the particular size and destination required. Changing an ODP file extension to .jpeg is not an image export and leaves the ODF package unreadable to image software.
The Entire Slide Page and a Selected Chart Produce Two Different JPEG Results
LibreOffice's bitmap export documentation gives a crucial, concrete rule: when the Selection box is not marked, the entire page of the document is exported. When Selection is marked, only the chosen bitmap and any additionally selected objects are exported. For a complete slide image, leave Selection clear. For an image asset such as a chart, logo, or diagram, select the desired objects and mark Selection. The two results are both valid, but a chart-only JPEG cannot substitute for a full-slide JPEG with its title, background, and other content.
Selection also affects visual effects. LibreOffice says File, Export writes an image with all applied filter effects. By contrast, Save Image on a linked image saves it without filter effects; an embedded image is always saved or exported with filters applied. Export is therefore the appropriate command when a selected picture has been recolored, filtered, or combined with text and shapes on the slide. If the JPEG looks like an unedited source photo, verify that Save Image was not used instead of Export. This is a documented command difference rather than a mysterious JPEG color failure.
What a JPEG Export Makes Easier and What It Removes Forever

LibreOffice Provides Named Settings for Size, Resolution, Color Depth, and JPEG Quality
After File, Export and selection of a graphics type, LibreOffice opens its Graphics Export Options dialog for JPEG. The dialog offers width, height, and resolution, and its documentation specifically names color depth and quality for JPEG. These controls should be chosen from the final use rather than left to a random default. A small preview image can have modest dimensions, while a JPEG intended for a large display needs enough pixels for the smallest text and lines. Enlarging a low-resolution JPEG later does not reconstruct the edge detail discarded at export.
Quality is a separate decision from dimensions. LibreOffice's PDF documentation explains the same JPEG behavior plainly: lower quality loses pixels and introduces artifacts but reduces file size. That loss shows most clearly around small text, thin chart lines, and hard color boundaries. Export a sample, open it at its actual display or print size, and inspect those areas before creating all slide images. A photo-heavy slide can tolerate a compact JPEG more easily than a slide made mostly from small lettering and diagrams.
Blurry Letters, an Unexpected Crop, and Plain-Looking Images Have Different Causes
Blurry slide text is normally a size or quality problem. Re-export the slide with appropriate width, height, resolution, color depth, and JPEG quality for the final display or print size; do not enlarge a compact thumbnail afterward. If the slide contains a multi-stop gradient or fine line art, inspect it at 100 percent because JPEG artifacts can become visible there. If quality must remain high but the attachment is too large, make separate web and print JPEG outputs rather than compromising the one file for both uses. The ODP master makes that repeat export possible.
An unexpected crop normally means Selection was enabled. Clear it to export the full page, or deliberately select every object that should appear in a partial image. A missing filter effect indicates the wrong save command for a linked image: Export applies filters, while Save Image may not. A missing animation frame is not a JPEG bug because JPEG records only a static appearance. Use the original ODP for a slideshow, or use a video workflow when movement is required. Diagnose the observed symptom before changing unrelated settings.
Plan a slide-image set before generating it. Decide whether each file is a complete slide, a selected object, a web preview, or a print asset, then name it accordingly. Export one representative slide first, including the smallest text and busiest diagram, and verify it at the final destination size. Once that sample is correct, use the same dimensions and quality for comparable slides. If a later change is made to the ODP source, regenerate the affected JPEG rather than editing a stale image and losing consistency with the presentation master.
JPEG also changes how readers can consume content. A page may look identical to a slide at first glance, but selectable text, speaker notes, accessibility structure, and live object relationships are gone. A chart image can be copied into a report, but its values cannot be inspected or updated from the JPEG. A URL printed on the slide may be readable but is not a clickable object merely because it looks like a link. Pair the image with the ODP, PDF, or an explicit URL when recipients need information beyond the visible pixels.
Use a practical file-size test rather than assuming every JPEG should be small. A large photo background can compress well at a moderate setting, while a mostly text-based slide can show visible ringing around letters at the same quality. Compare the exported byte size and the detail actually needed. If the image is intended for a website, check its displayed width in that page. If it is intended for print, inspect a real print or at least a full-resolution preview before selecting a lower-quality export solely to meet an email limit.
Record the export dimensions and quality alongside the delivered files. That small note makes later replacement images reproducible and stops a new slide from being generated with visibly different sharpness.

Does JPEG export include the whole slide?
Yes when Selection is clear. Mark Selection only when the desired output is a chosen object or group rather than the full page.
